Roots in Santo Stefano di Camastra

My nephew Josh has been investigating our family history and found records of my great grandfather, Nicolo Capitano who travelled from Palermo, Italy to New York City then to New Orleans. He finally settled in Tampa Florida and sent for the rest of his family in Italy. The records indicate that he was from the town of Santo Stefano di Camastra, which is on the northern coast of Sicily, between Messina and Palermo. It is only about 10 km east of Cefalu, which I visited. Below, I will show some images of Cefalu.

This is the beautiful town of Cefalu. The name means "horse's head" and refers to the mountain overlooking the town...which looks like a horse's head.

Below are images of the waterfront.

Of course, people make a town, and images of Cefalu people are below.

While in Cefalu, we lucked into seeing a race. The officials were all in place and barriers marked the route.

The crowds were gathered along the route.

And then we saw the speed demons, racing their hot rods through the streets of Cefalu.

Below are some scenes from streets in Cefalu.

Below is the cathedral in Cefalu, the center of the town.

And below are some images of my travel partners.
